Breast Augmentation Consultation

ARTISTIC BREAST AUGMENTATION

Type of Implants:

Saline-approved, Silicone-approved by FDA. I use smooth, round implants. Textured and oval implants are rarely ever used anymore.

Surgical Approaches for an artistic breast augmentation:

In the under breast line or through the areola. Occasionally via the armpit.

The Procedure:

The pre-operative markings, anesthetic interview and anesthetic induction takes up to an hour. The operation is 50 minutes and post-anesthetic recovery less than one hour.

Steps for an artistic breast augmentation:

1. Decision by patient to proceed with augmentation mammoplasty after thorough explanation of rationale, risks and sequelae of the procedure. Including the Schloemer Formula for ideal size and determining whether a lift is needed.
2. $500 deposit to schedule with the balance to be paid in full two weeks before surgery.
3. Pre-operative physical exam Dr. Schloemer/your doctor.
4. Mammogram if over thirty or increased risk factors for breast cancer.
5. Blood work.
6. Pregnancy test if appropriate.
7. Preoperative pictures
8. Consent for operation signed.
9. Pre-operative instructions.

Recovery:

Rest for 48 hours. Light work & may drive on third day. Sports bra for 2 - 4 weeks.

Risks:

Infection - rare. Occurs within 10 days of operation. Implant(s) must be removed.
Bleeding - 1%. Rarely may need drains.
Capsular contracture - 15% for life of implant. May need re-operation.
Deflation - 5%. Will need re-operation. Will discuss manufacturers warranty.
Rippling - ridges seen through the skin. Depends on placement and the patient's skin. Dr. Schloemer will discuss how he prevents or significantly reduces this problem.
Disruption - very rare. Implant comes through skin.I have never had this occur.
Noise - if air is present within implant.Small bubbles are absorbed. Should not occur.
Numbness - can occur anywhere in breast. Usually transient.
Asymmetry - one breast unlike the other. " Sisters not twins". Requires more than just implant to correct .A lift or areolar positioning may be required.
Anesthetic complications - any operation carries risks, even death. I have had NO deaths.
